Via Dolorosa -- The Church of the Holy Sepulchre

Our final tour for Day 8, saw us walking the Via Dolorosa, which traced the steps of Jesus from his trial to his tomb. We started near the Chapels of Condemnation and Flagellation, across from the Antonia Fortress where Pontius Pilate tried and condemned our Lord. We followed the winding narrow street and witnessed the stations of the Cross that marked events of his journey, such as him falling under the weight of the cross, to Golgotha where he was hung. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre now marks the spot where Jesus was hung, where He was laid after being taken down from the cross, and his tomb. Six chapels were built on this spot by different denominations, each laying claim to the tomb.
